What is Chinese Life Numerology? Your birthday, explained
Chinese Life Numerology turns your date of birth into the numbers behind your personality, gifts and life direction. Here is what it is, how it works and how it can help — in plain words.

Chinese Life Numerology is a way of reading a person from their date of birth. No star signs and no exact birth time — just the day, month and year you were born.
The 8 digits in your birthday
Your birthday can be written as 8 digits: 29/06/1979 becomes 2, 9, 0, 6, 1, 9, 7, 9. These digits are added in pairs, then added again layer by layer, until they form a chart that belongs to you. The number at the centre of that chart is your core number — what people mean when they say "I'm a 5".
Your core number is always between 1 and 9, and each one carries a natural kind of energy:
- 1: starting things, independence, leading
- 2: warmth, communication, balance
- 3: action, enthusiasm, drive
- 4: stability, planning, building
- 5: freedom, curiosity, change
- 6: wisdom, wealth, responsibility
- 7: thinking, insight, depth
- 8: responsibility, authority, achievement
- 9: compassion, completion, passing things on
More than one number
The core number is the heart of it, but the chart has many other positions: the energy you inherited from each parent, how your earlier and later life tend to unfold, your career and the people who help you, your health and wealth. Two people can both be 5s and still have very different stories.
Numbers that don't appear in your chart are called missing numbers — the lessons that take you more effort in this life. The numbers also map to the Five Elements (Metal, Water, Wood, Fire, Earth), which show where your energy leans and which colours suit you.
How it helps
Life numerology isn't fortune-telling and it doesn't decide your fate. It works more like a mirror that helps you see:
- what you're naturally good at, and why some things come easily
- the pattern behind the problems that keep coming back
- whether this year, this month — even today — is a time to push forward or hold steady
When you understand yourself, choices get clearer.
Questions
Do I need my birth time?
Not an exact time. You only need to know whether you were born after 11pm — if so, the next day is used.
Can my core number change?
No — it comes from your birth date and stays with you for life. What changes are your yearly, monthly and daily cycles.
